Standing on the Precipice of History

Today is Martin Luther King day. A day we celebrate to commemorate a great man, who had a great vision of what this country could be, what humanity could be. I watched his "I have a dream" speech on YouTube, which is sort of tradition for me on this holiday. What amazes me is that no matter how many times I watch it, it never fails to affect me.

Tomorrow is Obama's inauguration. It's an exciting time to be an American. It feels like we are coming out of the dark and into the light.

I have so much hope for this man. I hope he is a man of intelligence, integrity and foresight. I hope he will restore this country to rights. It is a large job, but I believe he can do it.

He isn't the realization of MLK's dream, but he is proof that it is possible. It is coming. It will happen. There is hope.

I hope that tomorrow is not remembered as the day the first African-American became president of the United States, but as the turning point for this country. The day when change started. The day that led to America living up to her full potential.

Only time will tell, but for now, I have hope.

Yay! For me at least!

Tomorrow I'm on vacation! Yay for me!

Not so yay for the husband. He's on vacation too, but he's getting his wisdom teeth out. Poor baby.

But still... yay for me!

Brace Yourself, Blume

What you will see tomorrow is just for you, mr. blume.
It's a rare sighting. Like a supernova. Or something else really rare.
It may never happen again, so enjoy it.

No spoilers from those of you who already know.

Redundant

I know it doesn't need to be said.
It doesn't need to be written.
It's one of those things that you just know without having to communicate it.
If we were together, our eyes would meet and we would both know.
We would know for that moment, that instant in time, we are EXACTLY on the same page with one another.

Yet, I'm going to say it anyway.

At the gym tonight, I watched "A Carol Christmas" starring Tori Spelling.
It's like a Christmas Carol, only instead of Scrooge, it's a woman named Carol who's mean and has her own television show.
We've had the big build up, and now here's the big bang.
That movie sucks ass.
It was horrible.
Tori Spelling cannot act.
I could not help but roll my eyes. I actually said "yuck" out loud at one point.
That's right. I was talking to myself OUT LOUD at the gym.
Thanks a lot Tori Spelling.
You suck.

You know what else?
Fuck you ABC Family.
Quit calling it the 25 days of Christmas.
You've already started it douche bags.
We are currently at 35 days until Christmas.
Do the math.

If you are insistent upon ramming Christmas down our throats, so that even in these hard economic times we couldn't possibly forget the season of rampant consumerism, then so be it. But don't call it the 25 days of Christmas.

I'm just saying...

Vote, Vote, Vote!!

Tomorrow is the big day.
I'm nervous.
One part fear and one part anticipation.
I'm afraid to hope, but I can't help myself.

Go vote tomorrow.

Barack Obama 08.

Beautiful... and sad

The last couple of days have been gorgeous.
The skies have been clear and the temperatures warm.
But, there is always some wistfulness when you have a beautiful day this time of year.
This feeling that you had better savor it as much as possible, because it might be the last of the beautiful days for awhile.
And also some hope, that it might last just a little bit longer.

Only One More Day...

Only one more day and then I get to be on vacation!
We have Friday and Monday off of work and we're going up to stay in a cabin in Spring Green for a few days and see Midsummer Night's Dream at APT.
Then the husband and I are staying over on Sunday night as well to celebrate my birthday.
Should be fun. I'm looking forward to it. :)

Jealous? You should be!

The Green County Fair is this weekend in Monroe.
There are cheese curds and a demolition derby in my near future.
Boo-yah!
Nothing but good times ahead...

Wedding of the Century

Tomorrow is the wedding of some good friends of mine.
The whole shebang starts tonight with the Rehearsal dinner.
(And for those of you wondering, according to Blogger's spell check, I spelled shebang correctly. Ha!)
The husband and mr. blume are at the actual rehearsal as I type this.
It's like standing on the edge of an infinite abyss.
I know it's there, but I can't really comprehend at the moment how big it is.
Snoop and DaisyDukes are two of the most organized, most... specific? (not sure what the right word is to say, they know what they want and how they want it) people I know.
This is not a bad thing.
It will be interesting to see what they have put together for their special day. I'm sure it will be (1) gorgeous, (2) organized, and (3) perfect. Knowing the two of them, they wouldn't have it any other way.
So, to the happy couple, congratulations.
To everyone else, the time for the wedding of the century is upon us.
Hopefully, I'll survive to see you on the other side.

Countdown to Hawaii

Tomorrow, I am leaving for Hawaii... Oahu, specifically... with my sisters.
Yay! I'm very excited about going!
Hopefully, we are going to have a lot of fun.

I am impressed that I have managed to get all my clothes packed into one little suitcase.
If you could see the amount of clothes I am packing, you would be impressed too.
Especially since I'm packing 7 pairs of shoes! :)

Hawaii here I come!
See you all when I get back!

SO happy!!!!

I was feeling a little bit of pressure at work.
My department is a little low on manpower due to lots of babies... well two babies anyway (out of 3 employees though). We're a pretty small team.
So, I've been taking on a much heavier workload to make up for the absence. Normally, this is no big deal. It's a lot of work, but I have no doubts what so ever that I could get it done.
But, I'm going to Hawaii next week. The work is long, but the time is short. I was really worried about how I was going to get everything done. Not just get everything done, but get everything done well.
Thankfully, the powers that be have moved out my deadline from mid-June to mid-July to accommodate some other stuff they want to do.
This makes me so blissfully happy! I will have plenty of time to do a kick-ass job now.
I will be able to go to Hawaii and enjoy myself, guilt free.
Booyah! :)

Anxiety

I'm going shopping for bathing suits for Hawaii tonight. I'm a little anxious about how that's going to go.

The last time I remember shopping for one, I was 18 and it stands out as one of the most depressing shopping trips of my life.

In general, I'm not that concerned about my body image. I mean, I'm fine with how I look and if you don't like it, well fuck you.

But really, swim suits are a whole other game. In the long run, every thing is going to be fine. I'm just not the type of person to care about this stuff for too long. In the short run, however, you might want to feel sympathy for poor husband who's going shopping with me.
Hopefully, he survives the night.

The Way to my Heart...

Today is my four year wedding anniversary. (Yay us!)

Some women are romanced by flowers and jewelry.

My husband is much wiser than that.
He brought me home Glarner Strube mashed potatoes.
He's no dummy. He knows that the way to my heart is paved with those mashed potatoes.
What a yummy surprise!

He also got me a gift certificate for a manicure and pedicure to a spa, so the potatoes weren't some sort of cop out. They were a bonus!

Hopefully, I won't be cursing his name in another half hour when I jump on the elliptical at the gym! :)
